لا يقدم القرآن تصوراً متكاملاً للكون، ولكن من بين التفاصيل المذكورة في القرآن يمكن استنتاج أن مؤلف القرآن كان يعتقد بأن الأرض مسطحة وأن الشمس والقمر يدوران حول الأرض، ويوضح الحديث أن الشمس حين تغيب تكون قد ذهبت أسفل العرش لتسجد لله. كما أن المفسرين في تفسيرهم لآية "نون" يقدمون عدة تفسيرات من بينها أن نون تعني الحوت العظيم الذي تستقر عليه الأرض. كما يبدو من أوصاف القرآن بأن حجم النجوم هو نفس الحجم الظاهر للأعين وبأنها خلُقت كزينة للسماء. ولا ترد في القرآن أو السنة أي إشارة إلى الاتساع الهائل للكون مقارنة بالأرض.</big> | |||
